A Quick Demo of ElevenLabs
As discussed last week, the new implementation of AI-voiceover apps and tools has changed the landscape for marketers and content creators. I asked Chat GPT for a list of "the most user-friendly and free ai voice online apps I can access," and here is the breakdown I got:
"For user-friendly and free AI voice apps online, several options stand out based on their features, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness:
- NaturalReaders offers a web-based text to speech service with realistic AI voices. It's designed for personal use and provides a straightforward platform for converting text to speech.
- Synthesys.io is notable for its ease of use and does not require registration for its free trial. It boasts a wide selection of voices and supports over 140 languages, making it a versatile choice for various applications.
- Speechify is praised for its natural-sounding human voices and supports over 30 languages. It offers features like free audio file downloads, document uploads for conversion to speech, and a mobile app for listening on the go. The platform also provides a premium subscription with additional features.
- Murf AI focuses on creating life-like synthetic voices that mimic human speech closely. It offers a free trial with 10 minutes of voice generation time, but downloading voices requires a paid plan. Murf supports over 20 languages and provides a comprehensive tool for professional-sounding voiceovers.
- ElevenLabs stands out for its realistic AI voices and dynamic range of emotions and accents. It offers text-to-speech and speech-to-speech conversion, supports generating audiobooks, provides free AI dubbing & video translation, and includes an API for developers. ElevenLabs covers 29 languages and over 70 different voices, making it highly versatile for various content creation needs."
I have used both Speechify and Murf AI in the past for some small work projects.
The main female voice came from Speechify and the deep man voice at the end was later added using Murf.
I was intrigued by ChatGPT's promise that ElevenLabs stands out "for its realistic AI voices and dynamic range of emotions and accents." My short video was created one year ago, so the AI voices might have drastically improved since, but in my video, I believe, it is clear these are AI-generated. So let's explore ElevenLabs together!
Explore ElevenLabs
1. Create an Account or Sign In
Visit the ElevenLabs website and sign up for an account or log in if you already have one. You can choose to create a new account or link your Google account.
2. Explore the Dashboard
Once logged in, you'll be directed to your dashboard. This is your main workspace where you can access all features, including creating new projects, accessing your voice library, and managing your account settings.
3. Start a New Project
With ElevenLabs, you have the option to use text-to-speech, speech-to-speech, or dubbing. For this quick demo, we will be using a text-to-speech feature to create a recent customer review into an audio file.
4. Text-to-Speech Conversion
For text-to-speech projects, you'll need to input the text you want to convert into speech. You can start by typing directly into the text box, uploading a document, or pasting text.
Select from the available AI voices. ElevenLabs offers a variety of voices in different languages and accents.
You can also adjust settings like speed, pitch, and tone to customize the voice output to your preference. This feature is also available in the other apps I've tried before. The big standout for me so far is the number of free voices available. With my previous experiences, the free voices are usually less than 8.
Once you've created your audio, you can edit, review, and make adjustments as necessary. ElevenLabs provides tools for tweaking the audio until you're satisfied with the result. After finalizing your project, you can download the audio file or share it directly from the platform.
6. Explore Additional Voices
The Voice Library combines the innovative Voice Design tool with a community-driven approach, allowing for the generation, sharing, and exploration of a vast array of synthetic voices. This feature supports multilingual models, ensuring voices maintain their unique characteristics across different languages. Users can share their custom-created voices with the community and use voices shared by others, all of which come with a free commercial use license. Additionally, contributors earn rewards when their voices are used, and the library includes sorting features for discovering popular or trending voices.
I used Adobe Character Animator, a free animator tool, to create a quick video. Here's the final result!
